Moreover, we expect our staff to hold us to that commitment. Anyone who feels he or she is not being given enough time need only ask for more. We will do whatever is necessary to make sure our mentoring efforts produce results.
Paying It Forward
Many times mentoring is based on a philosophy of paying back. In other words, an experienced employee wants to give back to a company that has mentored him or her, so they agree to mentor new hires in return. And while that philosophy certainly holds true, we do not discount the idea of paying it forward.
For example, you may mentor a new hire for the next several months, only to then be mentored yourself when you take on new roles and responsibilities. The idea of mentoring is one of having everyone contribute in a manner that will help someone else.
