At Nuttersons, one-on-one mentoring is part of our personal development programme for all staff members. We have seen the power of mentoring first hand. We know it benefits our staff, our company as a whole, and all of the customers we serve.

The idea behind mentoring is matching one staff member to another for the purposes of providing personal attention where it is needed. For example, being a successful sales representative requires learning and understanding multiple nuances relating to presentation and expectation. These subtle nuances are not learned overnight.

By matching an experienced sales rep with someone just starting out, the new rep will benefit greatly from the experience of his or her mentor. This helps them to learn the tools of their trade in an environment that is both non-threatening and encouraging at the same time. Few things are as successful as mentoring for personal development.

Many companies talk about mentoring, but we actually practice it. We provide at least one hour of mentoring every week and, when necessary, additional time. Moreover, we expect our staff to hold us to that commitment. Anyone who feels he or she is not being given enough time need only ask for more. We will do whatever is necessary to make sure our mentoring efforts produce results.


Paying It Forward



Many times mentoring is based on a philosophy of paying back. In other words, an experienced employee wants to give back to a company that has mentored him or her, so they agree to mentor new hires in return. And while that philosophy certainly holds true, we do not discount the idea of paying it forward.

For example, you may mentor a new hire for the next several months, only to then be mentored yourself when you take on new roles and responsibilities. The idea of mentoring is one of having everyone contribute in a manner that will help someone else.
